What is the LTR Visa?


Thailand has introduced the Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa, a program designed to attract high-potential individuals by offering tax and non-tax benefits. This initiative aims to position Thailand as a prime hub for living and business, especially for multinational corporations and professionals working remotely. The Thai government’s goal is to attract one million wealthy or skilled foreign residents over the next five years, fostering economic growth through increased investment and domestic spending.

Benefits of the LTR Visa

10-year renewable visa

Initially granted for 5 years, extendable for another 5 years if eligibility requirements are met.

Simplified reporting requirements

90-day reporting extended to one year; no re-entry permit required.

Exemption from employment ratio 

Exempt from the 4 Thai employees per 1 foreign employee rule.

Types of LTR Visas

The LTR Visa is available in four categories, catering to different groups of individuals. Spouses and children of visa holders or applicants may also apply for a dependent visa.

Wealthy Global Citizens

  • Assets: Minimum of USD 1 million in assets.
  • Income: At least USD 80,000 per year in the past two years.
  • Investment: USD 500,000 in Thai government bonds, real estate, or Thai-registered companies.
  • Insurance/Financial Security: Health insurance covering at least USD 50,000 or a Thai bank balance of USD 100,000 maintained for 12 months.

Wealthy Pensioners

  • Age: 50 years and above.
  • Income: Minimum of USD 80,000 per year.
  • Investment: If income is between USD 40,000–80,000 per year, an additional USD 250,000 investment is required.
  • Insurance/Financial Security: Same as Wealthy Global Citizens.

Work-from-Thailand Professionals

  • Employment: Working remotely for a well-established overseas company.
  • Income: Minimum USD 80,000 per year for the past two years (or USD 40,000 with a master’s degree, intellectual property, or Series A funding startup involvement).
  • Experience: At least five years of relevant work experience.
  • Insurance/Financial Security: Same as Wealthy Global Citizens.

Highly Skilled Professionals

  • Industry: Employment in government-targeted sectors.
  • Income: Minimum USD 80,000 per year (or USD 40,000 for those with a master’s degree or specialized skills).
  • Experience: At least five years in a relevant field.
  • Employer: Thai government agencies, universities, or private sector firms in targeted industries.
  • Insurance/Financial Security: Same as Wealthy Global Citizens.

LTR Visa Application Process

4 simple steps

Step 1
Application Submission
- Register and submit an online application along with supporting documents.
- Dependents must create separate accounts and link their applications to the main applicant.

Step 2
Qualifications Endorsement
- Applications are reviewed by government agencies (Immigration, Board of Investment, Department of Consular Affairs, etc.).
- Applicants will receive endorsement results within 20 working days (may take longer if additional documents are required).

Step 3 
Visa Issuance
- Once approved, applicants submit additional information for pre-approval (1–3 working days).
- The endorsement letter is issued, allowing applicants to schedule a visa appointment at Thai embassies, consulates, or the One Stop Service Center in Bangkok within 60 days.
- Fee: THB 50,000 per person for a 10-year visa (fees may vary for overseas issuance).​

Step 4
Work Permit Issuance
- LTR Visa holders employed in Thailand must apply for a work permit immediately.
- Processing takes 3–5 working days.
- Fee: THB 3,000 per year.
- Note: Work-from-Thailand Professionals do not require a work permit as they work for foreign employers remotely.

The LTR Visa is for individuals meeting specific economic, professional, or investment criteria, offering a 10-year stay with work benefits. The Thailand Elite Visa is a membership program with longer stays (5 to 20 years) but without professional work benefits.

Yes, applicants must have health insurance covering at least USD 50,000 or maintain a deposit of USD 100,000 in a Thai bank.

An employment contract is required for "Highly-Skilled Professionals" and "Work-From-Thailand Professionals." It is not required for "Wealthy Global Citizens" or "Wealthy Pensioners."
